Doug McArthur, a prairie-born singer-songwriter, has always been driven by an insatiable desire to write and perform music. His voice captivates audiences, and his hooks linger in their minds long after the music stops.
As frontman and creative force behind rock bands Broken Halo and Soapbox, he Doug wrote and released two albums and an EP, played big rock festivals like Stage 13, and enjoyed regular rotation on rock radio.
A viral cover of “Pinball Wizard” featuring Doug on vocals caught the attention of The Who. He was invited to sing backing vocals live with rock legends Heart and has shared the stage with The Trews, The Tea Party, Sum 41, ZZ Top, and more. His band Broken Halo won the Power 97 Class of 2010 with their single “Rooftops.”
Now, Doug performs as a solo act. In 2023, he released his debut solo single, “Hermit Phase,” produced by Rusty Robot (Waking Eyes, Imaginary Cities). His follow-up single, “Draw The Line,” was released in 2024. Next, he released an EP in 2024, featuring a remix of “Draw The Line” produced by Lana Winterhalt.
For his most recent single, Magic, Doug organized something special – a One-Day Choir event with a bespoke choral arrangement composed by local artist McKye.
Magic was featured as Song of the Week on Manitoba Music, and has been featured on Power 97’s River City Rocks show and on popular podcasts Witchpolice Radio and Made in Manitoba.

Press for Hermit Phase

Hermit Phase transcends time and space, warming our hearts with a simple but intricate rock song. While there is a sophisticated elegance to the single, a raw ruggedness shimmers on the surface with a cheeky grin.
– Nicole Mendes, The Other Side Reviews

Hermit Phase takes listeners on a profound musical journey, offering an introspective exploration of solitude and the longing for human connection. … Doug’s vocals are nothing short of mesmerizing.

Some Highlights from my Music Career
I sang backing vocals for Heart
As part of a small gospel choir, which consisted of members of the World Village Gospel Choir, I sang backing vocals for Heart on their cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”, live at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg on June 22, 2014. It was a major thrill to sing with such a legendary band, not to mention to share the stage with Jason Bonham, the son of late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, and a drumming legend in his own right.
Other Recordings
I sometimes throw demos, song snippets and other bits of music up on my Soundcloud page.
